The Buffalo Police Department recently released body camera footage of an incident that involved a woman who was shot in the shoulder by an officer.

Attorney Barry Covert was interviewed by WIVB News 4 Buffalo, to provide legal analysis for their coverage on the release of the body camera footage. Reporter Trina Catterson asked Barry Covert to break down the video and review if officers followed protocol.

WIVB reported that officers attempted to de-escalate the situation and that the newly released bodycam footage shows two officers asking the woman to put down her weapon a total of 27 times.

Barry Covert stated “It’s a tragic situation. It’s very sad, but it looks like it’s all very well justified. The amount of patience and restraint shown by the officers is commendable.” He went on to address whether or not the use of deadly force was the appropriate way to respond to this situation as well as how specifically the officers demonstrated restraint in this matter.
